Runza vs Whop: one helps you sell online, the other runs your service business with you

This page is a fit check, not a dunk. Ace, Runza’s AI co-founder who does the work, runs your site, customers, invoicing, and marketing in one place.

If you sell anything online, you have probably run into Whop. It is one of the biggest names in internet commerce right now, and for good reason. It handles checkout, payouts in a lot of countries, taxes, a marketplace full of buyers, and the tools to sell courses, memberships, communities and software.

So this is not a "Whop bad, Runza good" page. Whop is great at what it does. The question is whether what it does is what your business needs most.

Two questions sort it out quickly:

1. What are you selling? A digital product, course, membership, or community to an online audience? Or your own time and skill (cleaning, coaching, consulting, designing, fixing) to clients you know by name?
2. When something needs doing, who does it?

  • Whop gives you a strong place to sell and get paid, with AI that suggests your next best money move.
  • Runza gives you Ace, Runza's AI co-founder who does the work. Ace builds and updates your website, keeps track of your customers, sends quotes and invoices, and runs your marketing. You stay the owner. Ace does the busywork.

Here is the honest version, including where Whop is the better pick.

Where Whop is the better choice

We would genuinely point you to Whop if:

  • You sell digital products, courses, or memberships. That is Whop's home field. Its paid groups page lists chat, courses, forums and content as built-in "experiences," with "Monthly subscriptions, annual plans, one-time payments, lifetime access, free trials" (Whop paid groups).
  • You run a paid community. Whop was built around communities, and it shows.
  • You want buyers to find you. Whop says you can "List your products on the Whop.com marketplace and reach millions of potential customers," and lists "22M+ MAU" on its marketplace section (Whop network). Runza does not have a marketplace that sends you buyers.
  • You sell high-ticket offers or sell internationally. Whop offers financing through BNPL partners, local processing in the US, UK, Europe, Canada and Australia, and says it handles sales tax "in 190+ countries" (Whop coaching and courses). It says it paid out earners in "160+ countries" in 2025 (Whop pricing FAQ).
  • You want affiliates or clippers promoting you. Affiliate and creator programs are a big part of how Whop businesses grow.
  • You are a developer or a platform. Whop's API, embeddable checkout and CLI are built for people who want to wire payments into their own product.
  • You want to pay nothing until you make money. Whop is "100% free to sign up" with "no monthly or SaaS fee." That is a real advantage when revenue is uncertain.

Where Runza is the better choice

Runza fits better if:

  • Your business is you, doing a service, for clients you know by name. You clean houses, coach clients one on one, consult, design, or fix things. See Runza for local services, freelancers, consultants, and coaches.
  • The hard part is not getting paid. It is everything before and after. Writing the website, remembering to follow up on Thursday, sending the quote, chasing the late invoice, posting something this week. In Runza, Ace does those jobs with you.
  • You do not want to learn another dashboard. You tell Ace what you are trying to do ("get more spring bookings," "chase the two unpaid invoices") and Ace does the steps.
  • You want a predictable bill. One subscription, the same in a slow month and a busy one, plus a small 1% fee only on the card sales you actually make.
  • You want one place that sees the whole business. Site, customers, money and marketing together, so the next step is obvious.

"But Whop has AI now too." Yes, and here is the real difference.

Whop has added serious AI. On its homepage, Economic Intelligence is described as "a decision-making system that tells business operators their next best move at every level," with example actions like "Win back 240 members who lapsed this quarter," "Retry 86 cards that failed this week," and "Switch 120 monthly members to an annual plan" (Whop home). Whop's announcement says recommended actions show up as buttons, and one click creates a prompt for Whop AI or your own agent (Whop newsroom). There is also a Whop CLI, so "everything you can do from your Whop dashboard can be run programmatically."

That is useful, especially if you sell to a lot of people online. It is also a different job from what Ace does.

The price question, honestly (Whop fees, checked October 23, 2026)

Whop and Runza charge in completely different ways, so here is Whop's full published pricing, exactly as it appears on whop.com/network/pricing today. Whop's own FAQ puts it simply: "Whop is 100% free to sign up. We charge 2.7% + $0.30 per txn. There is no monthly or SaaS fee to use Whop!"

Whop also offers custom pricing for high volume. To its credit, the page is labeled "Every fee, explained" and "No hidden fees, no surprises," and it lists everything in one place.

Runza is a flat subscription, checked the same day on runza.ai/pricing: Free ($0), Starter ($14/mo, includes invoices, quotes and card payments), Pro ($69/mo, 30-day trial with no card, teammates $29/mo each), and Business ($129/mo, 2 people included, extra seats $39/mo). SMS marketing is an optional $29/mo add-on.

When a customer pays you by card through Runza, Runza takes 1% of the sale, and Stripe, which processes the payment, charges its standard fee (2.9% + 30¢ for US domestic cards, checked October 22, 2026). On a $100 card sale that is $4.20 in fees with Runza and $3.00 at Whop's standard rate. Per sale, Whop is cheaper, and we would rather you hear that here.

So which is cheaper? It depends on how much you sell, and that is the wrong reason to pick either one:

  • If you are just starting, or selling a little, Whop costs nothing until you get paid. That is hard to beat, and we will not pretend otherwise.
  • With Whop, you pay a share of each sale for a great payments and selling platform. The site, follow-ups, quotes and marketing are still yours to do.
  • With Runza, you pay a flat price, plus 1% of card sales, for Ace doing that work with you. The hours come back to you.

If what you need most is checkout, payouts and buyers, Whop is the better deal. If time is the thing you are short on, that is where Runza earns its price.

FAQ

Is Runza a Whop alternative?
For one-person service businesses, often yes. For digital products, courses, memberships, communities, or anyone who wants marketplace buyers, Whop is probably the better fit.

How much does Whop charge?
Whop has no monthly fee. It charges 2.7% + $0.30 per successful card transaction, with extra fees for international cards, currency conversion, payouts, disputes, and optional add-ons like tax remittance, all listed on its pricing page (checked October 23, 2026).

Is Runza cheaper than Whop?
Not when you are starting out, and not per card sale. Whop costs nothing until you sell, and its card rate is lower than Runza's 1% plus Stripe's fee. Runza is a flat subscription, and it is worth it only if Ace doing the work saves you real time.

Does Whop have AI?
Yes. Economic Intelligence recommends next moves from your sales data, and the Whop CLI lets an AI agent run your Whop account. Ace is different because it does the day-to-day work of a service business with you, not just the money side.

Does Whop work for service businesses now?
It does market to them, with a services page and blueprints for trades like pressure washing, cleaning and roofing. If payments and getting paid fast are your main need, it is worth a look. If you need someone to run the site, the customers and the marketing with you, that is the case for Ace.

I'm already on Whop. Should I switch?
If you sell online products or a community and it is working, stay. If you are a service business and the selling part is fine but the follow-ups, quotes and marketing are not getting done, start a 30-day Pro trial and see if Ace changes your week.

The bottom line

Whop gives people a powerful place to sell online and get paid. Runza gives one-person service businesses Ace, an AI co-founder who does the work with them.

If you sell digital products, courses, memberships or a community, choose Whop. If you want the website, customers, invoices and marketing handled while you do the actual work of your business, try Runza.
